Offshore Energy Branch

Meet the team

Nikki Wood

Branch Chair

Nikki has been involved with the union since 2017 when she joined Jake Molloy, then Regional Organiser, as the secretary for the Offshore Coordinating Group. Nikki had been working in the subsea sector for many years, (still is today) but her time with Jake and the OCG was a real eye opener to the conditions for offshore workers! Nikki became a member of RMT and after leaving the OCG secretary post, she was elected as the offshore energy Branch Membership Secretary. She has also Chaired two offshore Biannual General Meetings and today is the Chair of the Offshore Energy Branch.

Nikki’s offshore experience started back in 2007 working with a small company called Integrated Subsea Services (ISS). This subsequently grew into Harkand (2013) but sadly, like so many others during the big downturn, the company went into administration in 2016.

As the Chair of the Branch, Nikki would be delighted to see you at a meeting! She has said; “It always amazes me just how much work is going on behind the scenes with the union and you don’t really get to hear about it if you don’t get along to Branch meetings.”

Robbie has worked offshore for more than thirty years. Robbie is our current RMT/OILC Offshore Energy Branch Secretary. His day-job in the offshore energy sector is Senior Test Engineer for lifting equipment, which involves work on all forms of offshore units from oil and gas platforms, drilling rigs, barges and ships worldwide.

Robbie has been a trade union activist since leaving School and is a regular at demonstrations across the country supporting fellow trade union members in struggle. Along with his current offshore job he also manages the day to day running of the Offshore Energy Branch and is the man to contact for all matters associated with your membership and the Branch. You can email Robbie with questions or queries at: oilc@rmt.org.uk or you can call him or text him at: 07486 090 101

Due to the nature of his offshore employment which can be anywhere in the world, Robbie may not get back to you immediately, but he will respond.

If your question relates to an urgent employment issue and you need advice right away, you can contact the Regional Office at: 01224 582688 or email the Regional Organiser, at a.joss@rmt.org.uk

Jake has stood down from the Regional Organiser post, but remains active with the Offshore Energy Branch as a Committee member. Jake is also a Commissioner with the Scottish Government's "Just Transition Commission."

Michelle Brown

Regional Clerical Assistant

Michelle is the Regional Clerical Assistant for the Aberdeen Office/Resource Centre, covering the Offshore Energy Branch, the Aberdeen Shipping and Aberdeen Rail branches.

Michelle has been with the union for almost 7-years, having previously had a wide range of clerical positions including a job with an engineering consultancy in the offshore industry when she first came to Aberdeen 25 years ago. She has also worked in education, childcare and a veterinary practice, so is good at working with children and animals (and offshore energy workers!).

When Michelle came to RMT in 2018 her first task was to implement the new GDPR regulations, and sort out all the documents that were no longer to be retained. As many of the documents were historically important with relation to the offshore and shipping industries, including a full transcript of the Cullen Inquiry into the Piper Alpha disaster amongst other things, she created an archive which has been accessed by Aberdeen University and the Maritime Museum.

Michelle is a keen runner, and her proudest moment was completing the Loch Ness Marathon in 2019.
